about the webinar

HPR stands for Hunt, Point, Retrieve. These athletic, versatile dogs were bred to cover ground, search for game, point, hold that point, flush, and retrieve, often with a high level of drive, independence and sensitivity. In pet life, that can look like a dog who ranges too far, pulls towards every scent, fixates on wildlife, struggles to come back when called or finds it hard to settle without constant activity or reassurance.

In this live webinar, Nick Pratt from Bear Basics Canine Academy will help you make sense of the needs behind your HPR’s behaviour. He will explain why simply adding more exercise often leaves these dogs more wired, not more fulfilled, and how to create an approach that respects their genetics while making everyday life more enjoyable. You will learn the seven core pillars of a happy, fulfilled gundog: health and well-being, diet and nutrition, genetic fulfilment, sleep and rest, relationship, structure and boundaries, and training and communication.

Designed for German Shorthaired Pointer, Vizsla, Weimaraner, Brittany and similar HPR owners, this webinar offers a clear path to better connection, calmer walks and a dog who can
remain full of character while being easier to live with.

Nick Pratt

Nick Pratt is the co-founder of Bear Basics Canine Academy and creator of Calm by Nature, a programme designed specifically for pet gundog owners. His approach was shaped by his own experience of living with a high-drive gundog and the realisation that generic training often fails to address the instincts behind the behaviour. Nick helps owners understand their dog’s genetics, meet their needs appropriately and build calmer, more connected lives together through clear structure, practical training and genuine fulfilment.
